St. Petersburg street musicians fined for performing a Noize MC song say a woman in the audience asked them to play it. She may also have filed a police complaint
Innokenty Kustov and Sergey Nikulshin themselves told Rotonda about this.
They said they were playing near a railway crossing not far from Begovaya metro station on October 27. Kustov says listeners asked them to play songs by “foreign agents,” including Noize MC.
The musicians say they did not know the songs were subject to any ban.
Afterward, a woman in the audience called the police and then filed a complaint. One of the musicians thought it was the “alternative-looking” young woman who had asked them to play those songs.
The case files reviewed by the outlet do indeed name a female complainant with the surname Petrova.
🔵The Primorsky District Court classified Kustov and Nikulshin’s performance outside the Primorskiye Baths building (33 Mebelnaya Street) as a violation of laws governing public gatherings, petty hooliganism, and “discrediting” the army.
🔵For this, the musicians were sent to a detention center for two days and fined 15,000 rubles.
🔵The police and the court believed the young men were obstructing pedestrians. Among other songs, they performed Noize MC’s “Swan Lake Cooperative.” In 2025, the Primorsky Court banned it throughout Russia.
