Ghana’s Foreign Ministry says Putin agreed not to recruit the country’s citizens into the Russian army

Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said Vladimir Putin would prohibit Ghanaian citizens from joining the Russian army to fight in the war against Ukraine.

“Following the concerns expressed by President Mahama, President Putin stated that Ghanaian citizens are no longer permitted to participate in the war against Ukraine. This decision applies in all circumstances, including recruitment outside established procedures or voluntary enlistment,” Ablakwa wrote on Facebook following the Russia–Africa summit.

Putin met with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on the sidelines of the third Russia–Africa summit on October 30.
