“People with flashlights”: Tusk says possible provocation prevented on Poland’s border with the Kaliningrad region
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported the incident ahead of a meeting of Poland’s Council of Ministers, RMF 24 reports. He said that shortly after midnight he received a report from the Border Guard about “suspicious activity” on the border with Russia. Some “people with flashlights” had been spotted there.
“We very quickly mobilized the necessary forces and resources, and managed to prevent an attempted provocation,” Tusk said.
According to RMF 24, the unidentified people were spotted near the town of Sępopol in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. No one crossed the Polish border.
Tusk added that the incident occurred after Polish authorities received a warning from intelligence services and NATO allies that an act of sabotage or a provocation could take place on the border with Russia in the first days of November. Poland has stepped up border security in response.
