Yabloko chair: “We are supported by people who do not want to be killed”

Yabloko chairman Nikolai Rybakov said in his closing statement at the hearing on Rodina’s lawsuit seeking to remove Yabloko from the elections that the party had not violated the law and intends to continue defending its political position:

We are a party of law, we stand for the law being observed. Our position differs from that of the party of the ruling power. And it is very difficult to maintain a political position while remaining within the legal framework. And our opponents are unhappy with that.

I do not know how to explain to the plaintiff’s representatives that we are supported by people who do not want to be killed.

The young people who make videos in our support, and who came to the Supreme Court today, we do not pay them anything.

He believes that filing the lawsuit shows a lack of trust in state bodies and in their ability to hold competitive elections:

This is a case when personal ambitions, private and selfish interests come first, while national and state interests come second.

Rybakov said that Yabloko is working in very difficult conditions, given its position, but that it is fundamentally important for them to remain in Russia:

We will defend our vision within the electoral process, together with the people we live with, who want to live in Russia and believe in the future of our country.

He added that the party “continues to defend the rights of the majority of Russian citizens,” since “preserving human lives is in the interest of the majority of residents.”
