In the second Russian region, priests and sisters of mercy will be assigned to women's clinics

In Chuvashia, at least two representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church will work in every women's clinic: a priest and a sister of mercy. This was reported on social media by the Orthodox organization “Center for Family Protection ‘Pokrov,’” as noted by “Verstka.”

This NGO belongs to the local diocese and specializes in working with “crisis pregnancies.” According to Orthodox activists, the idea of attaching priests and sisters of mercy to women's clinics came from the Chuvashia Ministry of Health. And Metropolitan Savvaty of Cheboksary and Chuvashia blessed the initiative.

As stated in Pokrov’s message, representatives of the ROC will work in women's clinics in Cheboksary and Novocheboksarsk.

Mikhail Pavlov, head of the diocesan department for church charity and social service and supervisor of the sisters of mercy, indirectly confirmed to “Verstka” that the project had been launched, but declined to comment in detail. “I think it’s too early [to give comments] for now. In a month or two,” the archpriest replied to the journalist.

🟦The first Russian city to assign priests to women's clinics was Saratov. In the autumn of 2025, by order of the Saratov Metropolia, 18 clergymen were assigned to clinics in order to “provide spiritual care” to patients.
