OVD-Info analyst Denis Shedov declared wanted

The Interior Ministry has declared our colleague, OVD-Info analyst and former board member of the Memorial Human Rights Center, Denis Shedov, wanted. Mediazona noticed the entry in the ministry’s database. There is no information on what article the case was opened under.

Here is what Denis himself says:

Declaring me wanted and opening a criminal case against me is yet another act of injustice and repressive use of the legal system in Russia. Unfortunately, there are already thousands of documented cases of politically motivated criminal prosecution in Russia. Many defendants in such cases are deprived of their freedom and need our solidarity and support, just like their families. Letters, donations, drawing attention to people deprived of their freedom for political reasons are the concrete actions by which we can support those being persecuted and resist repression now.

▶️ The persecution of Denis Shedov

In June 2025, the Justice Ministry declared Denis Shedov a “foreign agent.” According to the ministry, he “disseminated false information about decisions made by public authorities of the Russian Federation and the policies they pursue,” and also took part “in the activities of organizations included in the register of foreign agents.”

After that, Shedov was fined three times in cases over violations of “foreign agent” legislation: for failing to submit reports to the Justice Ministry and for failing to report himself as a “foreign agent.” At the same time, in February 2026, one of the fines for a missing report was canceled, and the proceedings in that case were terminated.
