An associate professor at European University at St. Petersburg was sent to pretrial detention in a terrorism financing case over transfers to FBK

The Kuibyshevsky District Court of the city placed Igor Zaitsev under arrest until September 30.

According to investigators, he transferred 3,500 rubles to FBK accounts. These were seven transactions of 500 rubles each in 2021 and 2022, as Zaitsev was paying for a subscription.

Investigators sought his arrest because, according to the security services, Zaitsev “has ties to nongovernmental organizations from the NATO bloc countries, has a visa for EU countries, and had plans to travel to a conference in Italy,” Mediazona notes.

🔵Zaitsev was detained on August 12 after a search of his apartment. He is a Candidate of Philosophical Sciences and an associate professor at EUSPb. Alongside his work at the university, Zaitsev held the post of deputy dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology, and Religious Studies at the Dostoevsky Russian Christian Academy for the Humanities, specializing in the history of philosophy, philosophical theology, and phenomenology.
