Lev Shlosberg Sentenced to 11 Years, for Reposting a Daily Mirror Cover With Putin and Taking Part in Debates

Pskov City Court sentenced Yabloko deputy chairman Lev Shlosberg to 11 years and one month in a penal colony on charges of repeated “discrediting” of the army and spreading “fakes” about the Russian armed forces.

The reason for the “discrediting” case was a recording of debates posted on Odnoklassniki in which Shlosberg argued for the need for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. The “fakes” case was opened because of a repost in Shlosberg’s Telegram channel on February 25, 2022, of an Ekho Moskvy publication featuring the cover of the British newspaper Daily Mirror. It showed a bloodied woman and Putin, along with the words: “Her blood… His hands.”

The prosecutor requested 12 years and one month in a penal colony for Shlosberg, taking into account the previous sentence (in November 2025, Shlosberg was given 420 hours of compulsory labor over objections to the labels about his foreign agent status).

In his final statement in court, Shlosberg said he was being unlawfully persecuted on the authorities’ orders and called for the war to end immediately. The judge constantly interrupted the politician, saying that she was “absolutely not interested” in hearing about human rights and freedoms. Here are excerpts from their dialogue.
