The Moscow Metro has started advertising "alternative service" without being sent to war. In reality, what they are offering is to sign a contract with the Defense Ministry

Stands advertising "alternative service" in Moscow and in the Moscow-region city of Naro-Fominsk have appeared in the Moscow Metro. Volunteers are promised that they will not be sent to the combat zone, while still receiving military benefits and an exemption from compulsory military service, according to Ostorozhno, Novosti and Vot Tak.

The advertising stands have appeared at least at the Tushinskaya and Skhodnenskaya stations. The leaflets carry the name of the organization "Zashchitnik.RF" and the caption "Contract for the SMO." According to one of the women working at the stand, the program appeared about a month ago.

The organization's hotline said that those interested are being offered a standard contract with the "African Corps" — a unit of Russia's Defense Ministry — with service in Naro-Fominsk. Recruiters are especially interested in candidates with engineering education and driver's licenses. Drivers are offered the job of "hauling supplies," without specifying where.

The booklet lists a one-time payment of 2.3 million rubles and a schedule of five days on, two days off. But the hotline said the monthly payments amount to 130,000 rubles.

Recruiters assure people that after signing the contract, volunteers will not be sent to the front. However, the lawyers and human rights advocates interviewed by journalists note that there is no separate contract for "alternative service."

ACS (alternative civilian service) is a separate legal procedure for conscripts who seek to replace compulsory military service with alternative civilian service,
