In the Donetsk region near the city of Lyman, British citizen Bradley Townsend, a 33-year-old native of South Yorkshire, was killed. He had taken part in the war in Ukraine on Russia’s side. He was killed by a guided drone as far back as June 10. British media write that he became the first British citizen known to have died while fighting on the side of the Russian Federation.

Townsend explained his decision to go fight on Moscow’s side by saying he wanted to thank Russia for the support that Donbas miners gave to striking miners in Yorkshire in the 1980s.

One of Townsend’s former friends said that he suffered from mental disorders and addictions. According to him, he was a “normal guy,” but other people used his “vulnerabilities” to “recruit him into their strange things.” Townsend himself said that going off to war was his own decision and that no one forced him to do it.

British citizens have already been killed in the course of the Russian-Ukrainian war, but all of them fought on Ukraine’s side.
