The war ‘fake news’ case against anthropologist Vasilina Orlova is being handled by a war participant

The criminal case is being investigated by 23-year-old Elizaveta Pivorovich, an investigator with the Ostankino interdistrict investigative department of the Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee, reports Mediazona.

In 2021, Pivorovich enrolled at the Moscow State Law University (MSAL). A year later, she spoke at an academic conference with a presentation on the “dissemination of knowingly false information in the European Union and Russia.”

In March 2025, Pivorovich was introduced as a war correspondent for the volunteer unit “ArBat” within the structure of the Russian Defense Ministry. By her own account, she worked as an editor at the Solovyov LIVE channel.

The case against Orlova was opened over two posts on VKontakte: about the use of cluster munitions against civilians in Odesa and the killing of people in Bucha by the Russian army. The Interior Ministry put the anthropologist on the wanted list. The Justice Ministry designated Orlova a “foreign agent.”
