Ukrainian paratroopers from the 79th Brigade captured an officer whose combat path is a textbook example of how personnel are treated in the Russian army.

Our hero is a unique character: he has been serving since 2019, was among those who entered Ukrainian territory on February 24, 2022, is still fighting, and is still alive. During this time, he rose from private to senior lieutenant while serving as a platoon commander in a motorized rifle battalion.

In more than 2 years, the unit under his command was almost completely replaced nearly every month. Men were sent in, they were wiped out, new ones were sent in to replace them, and the cycle kept going. At the same time, the man kept getting new ranks:

“In the month of January I deployed two crews. They were there for literally a week and a half. They were destroyed... At the beginning of July I received an early promotion to the rank of ‘senior lieutenant’”

It all ended in a way typical for the Russian army: because of a manpower shortage, the platoon was disbanded and sent into assaults. Together with the commander. In the end, two survived and were taken prisoner. Including our hero.

Huge losses have led to a situation where even junior officers in the Russian army are not protected from being sent into assaults. Today you command “suicide troops,” and tomorrow you yourself are a rightless slave who gets to choose only between ways to die. But while you are in command, you have the opportunity to earn ranks and awards on other men’s blood. That is how the system works.
