UniCredit Bank has started offering clients the option to close their accounts and cards

Clients of UniCredit Bank, the Russian subsidiary of the Italian UniCredit group, began receiving such proposals when contacting the bank’s support service, two UniCredit clients told RBC, RBC reported.

"In light of the reduction of the retail business’s presence on the Russian market, the bank suggests that you consider closing all accounts / closing all accounts and cards, with the transfer of your ruble balances to yourself at any other bank via the Fast Payments System without a fee," the support replies say. At the same time, the bank is not reporting an immediate termination of client servicing.

UniCredit Bank is on Russia’s list of systemically important banks. UniCredit announced its decision to leave the Russian market back in 2022. In the following years, the Italian group consistently scaled back its Russian business.

In May, it became known that a consortium from the UAE had proposed to Italy’s Finance Ministry that it sell UniCredit’s Russian business. According to Kommersant, the consortium is acting in the interests of Alfa Group. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027.
