At a press conference in Bishkek on September 1, Vladimir Putin spoke about two encirclements of Ukrainian units in Kharkiv Oblast and the capture of the city of Sviatohirsk near Sloviansk. These words surprised even the authors of Telegram channels close to the command of the Russian Armed Forces. However, oddly enough, the optimism about the outcome of the operations that Putin shared with the world is based not on false impressions but on a very real dynamic: the Russian offensive really did accelerate at the end of the summer, and at the beginning of autumn it again led to a crisis in the AFU’s defenses in several important sectors.
