Moscow airports began imposing flight restrictions more often after Zelensky’s statement about closing the skies over Russia

The number of times the capital’s airports Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo imposed temporary restrictions on aircraft landings and takeoffs, or accepted aircraft by prior coordination, reached 29 in the week from August 31 to September 6. This is shown by data published on the channel of Rosaviatsiya’s press service and reviewed by “Vyorstka.”

Of these, restrictions were imposed six times at Sheremetyevo, 14 times at Vnukovo and nine times at Domodedovo.

Before that, from May through August, Moscow airports had closed an average of 17.5 times per week. Thus, the increase in the number of restrictions imposed was more than 65%. At the same time, on the weekend of September 5-6, amid statements about a ceasefire regime due to the arrival of American negotiators, no restrictions in Moscow’s airspace were reported.

In total, Moscow airports were closed 64 times in May, 87 times in June and 74 times in July. In August, the number rose to 85, and in the first days of September it reached 26 times. During this period, restrictions were most often imposed at Domodedovo (143 times), followed by Vnukovo (138 times) and Sheremetyevo (47 times).

🟦Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing data from Osprey Flight Solutions, reported a significant increase in the number of times airports in Russia impose restrictions because of drone attacks. According to the project, in August their number reached 993 cases, compared with 728 times in July and 433 in May.

🟦On September 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the skies over Russia “will de facto be closing” and are becoming completely dangerous. Against this backdrop, at least two foreign airlines (Pegasus and Air Tanzania) imposed flight restrictions, although they later lifted them.
