Russians often like to repeat that "we don’t abandon our own." In practice, however, things are not the way they are in words. Nikolai Dushko was captured in 2022. Since then, he has been waiting and hoping that Russia will take him back as part of one of the exchanges, but so far neither Nikolai nor other prisoners among those who joined the Russian army in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions have interested the Russian authorities.

In connection with the upcoming elections in Russia, Nikolai is appealing to the government with a demand to bring back those who have been waiting for years to return home.
