A major battery plant for drones will be built in Russia. It is expected to fully meet Russia’s needs — The Insider

A “gigafactory for batteries for unmanned vehicles” will be built in Russia, The Insider writes: the project concerns a lithium-ion battery plant belonging to the company Innovative Energy Systems (INESIS), controlled by the drone manufacturer Transport of the Future.

The outlet reports that the Russian government will allocate up to 10.46 billion rubles to subsidize a preferential loan for the plant’s construction.

According to a government order, the money will go to Sber, with the bank being compensated for lost income on the preferential loan provided to INESIS.

The full cost of building the factory is unknown.

Transport of the Future officially positions its products as civilian, but there is evidence that developments linked to it have been used by the Russian military, the outlet writes.

The new plant will become one of the largest battery-industry projects in Russia. INESIS has said that the factory will fully cover Russia’s need for drone batteries.
