Ukrainian Railways reported that in Volyn region, two kilometers from the border with Poland, Russia struck the locomotive of a passenger train. Ukrainska Pravda clarifies that the train was traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw.
According to Der Spiegel, Friedrich Merz’s adviser on foreign policy and security, Günter Sautter, and other officials from Britain, France, and Italy, as well as former prime minister Boris Johnson, were traveling from Ukraine on another train.
At around five in the morning, the train stopped near the Polish border because of the threat of a drone attack, after which some passengers were evacuated. The alert was soon canceled — no new drones were detected, and no one was injured.
Former Swedish prime minister and foreign minister Carl Bildt also clarified on X that “it was not our train, but a train that passed just a few minutes after us near the border with Poland”:
It was evacuated when a Russian drone approached it, and no one was injured. A very good security system. On our train, only an evacuation warning was announced, but it was able to continue on to Dorohusk.
Ukrainian Railways’ press service later reported that trains in different regions are delayed from one to ten hours because of evacuations and detours.
