Russia’s largest retailers have begun buying concrete shelters against UAVs

Russia’s largest retail companies, including Pyaterochka, Azbuka Vkusa, Magnit, Lenta, and Komus, have begun posting tenders to buy shelters from drones for their facilities, Verstka found. The purchase amounts have not been published.

Among the companies found by Verstka, Pyaterochka is buying the most shelters. As stated on the page of one of the purchases, the retailer wants to receive 24 “urban mobile shelters” and have them delivered to distribution centers in the Voronezh and Kursk regions, as well as Stavropol Krai. A similar request concerns 61 shelters to be delivered to the Volgograd, Penza, Rostov, Samara, Saratov, and Tambov regions, to Adygea, and to Krasnodar Krai.

Azbuka Vkusa published a request on September 14 to purchase shelters from drones at two addresses: six units for the Istra district of the Moscow region and 12 for St. Petersburg. The technical assignment states that the facility must have a required capacity of 16-20 people, and that it must provide protection from fragments, strikes by small drones, and drops from them.

In early September, Lenta also posted a tender for the installation of modular shelters next to a hypermarket in Novosibirsk to ensure the safety of staff and employees of the shopping complex. According to the documents, the company plans to build five shelters on opposite sides.

In mid-August, retailer Magnit also published a tender for the supply and installation of a modular reinforced-concrete shelter at a facility in Krasnodar Krai. According to map data, the address specified in the request is the site of the company’s distribution center. A total of 17 facilities are planned. A similar tender also appeared for the Volgograd region, where the company plans to provide the distribution center with one shelter.

Komus is also collecting applications for the supply and placement of drone shelters “for its own needs.” The office-supplies vendor plans to receive a UM-6-type shelter for a facility in Domodedovo; no other details are publicly available.
