Historian of Russian cuisine Pavel Syutkin has been sentenced to six years in an army “fake news” case

Moscow’s Zyuzinsky District Court handed down a sentence in the case of 61-year-old Pavel Syutkin: six years in a general-regime penal colony, Mediazona reports.

Syutkin was detained in October 2025. The case was prompted by a post in his Telegram channel in which he wrote about the killings of civilians in Bucha near Kyiv. Syutkin did not admit guilt.

Together with his wife Olga, Pavel Syutkin wrote several books on the history of Russian and Soviet cooking and gastronomy. Syutkin also regularly appeared as an expert on cooking programs on television and radio.
