Moscow may host a school championship in “military chess,” inspired by the war in Ukraine, for four million rubles

Businessman Yevgeny Grechin submitted an application for a grant for this to the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives in June 2026; the outlet Ostorozhno, Moskva noticed it.

The money is intended to produce 500 sets of the game, hold qualifying tournaments in at least 100 Moscow schools, and gather no fewer than 50 school teams and 200 participants in the final.

Grechin is a co-founder of the center for applied intellectual games “More Than a Game.” The organization’s website states that he developed “military chess” himself.

It says that the “new, domestic game emerged as a result of analyzing combat operations in Ukraine.”
