What OSINT analysts began reporting in late August can now be discussed openly. The Third Corps has announced that it is carrying out the offensive operation “Vivaldi.” So far, it has reported clearing 75 km² and de-occupying 10 km² of Ukrainian territory. But if you look at the OSINT analysis, the situation for the Russian army is much worse: the Armed Forces of Ukraine have cut down the Lyman salient almost to the Zherebets River. What is telling in this situation is the total mendacity of Putin’s system, which Russian soldiers pay for with their lives. The counteroffensive began back in the spring under operational secrecy: Ukrainian channels deliberately said nothing about the AFU’s advance for a long time. This helped the offensive a great deal, because instead of responding to problems, the leadership of the 20th and 25th Combined Arms Armies and local headquarters kept sending reports up to the Russian General Staff saying that everything was fine and that they were supposedly continuing to advance. It reached such absurdity that Putin publicly announced literally a week ago that the Russian Armed Forces had captured Sviatohirsk.

In a normal army and a normal country, the people would ask both the military commanders and the political leader: how did it happen that just yesterday you claimed Sviatohirsk had been captured, and today your troops are already fighting dozens of kilometers away from the city, on lines where the Russian army was back in 2025?

But in Russia, nobody gives a damn. If Putin announced that it was taken, then it was taken. Even if Russian soldiers are retreating at that very moment.

All this television lying has its price at the front. In an attempt to force fantasy and reality to match, commanders will throw their soldiers into unprepared assaults, and they are the ones who will pay for the lie with their lives.
