The EU is proposing to keep Usmanov on the sanctions list but unfreeze his assets and lift the ban on entering the European Union
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing two diplomats.
According to FT, ambassadors of the 27 countries are meeting today to find a solution regarding France’s proposal to remove Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov from the sanctions list. Slovakia is also asking for this.
As a compromise, Ireland is proposing to keep Usmanov on the list but lift some restrictions. Some countries believe this would create a dangerous legal precedent.
