Made to sing the anthem and dance: Russian kindergarten children were taken en masse to polling stations

Russian kindergartens began reporting en masse on excursions they had held for their pupils to polling stations on the first day of the State Duma elections. By 12 noon Moscow time, more than 20 institutions from different regions of the country had published such messages, Verstka calculated.

Most of the reports resemble one another in content. They say that kindergarten children are shown how polling stations and the voting process work. In addition, the children are convinced “that the future of the city and the country depends on each person’s choice.”

“Of course, it is still too early for children to vote for real, but they already understand that the future of our country, our city, and even our kindergarten depends on the choice of every adult,” the messages say.

At the same time, some institutions sent their pupils to precinct election commissions so they could perform there. For example, in Mendeleevsk children were made to sing the anthems of Russia and Tatarstan at the opening of a polling station. And in the city of Yanaul, also in Tatarstan, children had to perform a dance routine in front of precinct election commission members.

The largest number of reports about children visiting precinct election commissions were posted by kindergartens from the Jewish Autonomous Oblast. There, pupils from institutions in at least six localities were sent to polling stations. Kindergartens in Amur Oblast, Kamchatka, Zabaykalsky Krai, Kemerovo Oblast, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Irkutsk Oblast, as well as in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and Chuvashia, also reported on “excursions.”
