Luxembourg’s only airport suspended operations because of “unauthorized drones”

Luxembourg Airport, the country’s only international airport, suspended operations for several hours on the evening of Friday, September 18, after “unauthorized unmanned aerial vehicles” were detected. This was reported on the airport’s website.

The drones were detected near the airport and directly over its grounds.

“The temporary suspension of flights was carried out as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers, crews, airport staff, and aircraft,” the website said.

In 2025, airports in several European countries suspended operations because of unidentified drones. Drones were spotted, in particular, over the airports in Oslo and Copenhagen.

In August 2026, a drone with explosives attached to it was discovered at Leipzig Airport. The drone was located near a Ukrainian An-124 transport aircraft that had ammunition on board. It later became known that there were several drones. On September 1, German authorities officially accused Russia of attempting sabotage at the airport. Moscow denies the accusations.
