Trump signed a law on “hellish sanctions” against Russia
The initiator of the sanctions law was Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who died in July 2026. The law gives the U.S. president the right to impose 100% tariffs against the five largest buyers of Russian energy resources.
Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Trump for “signing this extremely important law.”
“When Lindsey Graham was here, in Ukraine, he always spoke about how important it is not to ease pressure on Russia, to strengthen sanctions, and to look for a path to peace. Including in those capitals where decisions are made about buying Russian oil, providing Russia with financial services, and bringing Russian companies linked to Putin and the war into ordinary business relations in other countries,” he wrote.

Tariffs Become The Pressure Lever
The law allows 100% tariffs on major buyers of Russian energy.
The pressure still waits for a decision.
