Dmitry Muratov urged Witkoff to secure the release of Russian political prisoners

Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov spoke about Russian political prisoners in an interview with the American television network CNN.

Muratov showed the host and viewers photographs of theater director Zhenya Berkovich, former municipal deputy Alexey Gorinov, pediatrician Nadezhda Buyanova, and Samara saxophonist Andrey Shabanov, as well as pianist Pavel Kushnir, who died in prison.

The former Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief also spoke about Alexandra Strilets, whose daughter died while her mother was in prison.

Muratov urged official representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump in negotiations with Russia — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — to raise the issue of political prisoners’ fate in meetings with Vladimir Putin.

Witkoff has already come to Moscow eight times or more. When he returns, his plane flies back empty. Why can’t he ask Putin, with whom he has good relations, to release several political prisoners — so that they fly back with him?
