The EU will impose sanctions on organizers of voting in the occupied territories of Ukraine

The European Union announced sanctions against those who took part in organizing and ran as candidates in elections that Russia held in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

The European Union reiterates that it does not and will never recognize either the holding of these so-called “elections” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine or their results,

the statement says.

The EU said the vote “demonstrated the continuing and deepening destruction of democratic foundations in Russia amid an increasingly authoritarian political environment.”

The decision to remove Yabloko from the elections further limited the choice of Russian voters, the statement says. The EU also regrets Russia’s decision not to invite OSCE observers.
