“We do not recognize these elections as fair and honest” — PACE president on the results of voting in Russia

President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Petra Bayr, in an interview with TV Rain, said that PACE will not cooperate with the State Duma “that was elected in this way.”

We do not recognize these elections as fair, honest, and transparent, because the opposition had no opportunity to take part in them, observers were not allowed into the elections, young people were driven to the polls under pressure, they were told: “If you don’t vote, your father or mother may be fired, and they work at a state enterprise.” And at the same time this often happened in occupied Ukrainian territories, and that is completely illegitimate,

Petra Bayr noted.

The politician called the elections in Russia “fake,” as well as the Duma being formed as a result of these elections.

PACE members will discuss the results of these elections and their consequences at a plenary session on September 28.
