Political scientist Alexander Kynev was beaten during his arrest. He is in a prison hospital with fractures

The political scientist was tortured during his arrest. “Slovo zashchite” reports this. Kynev has fractures of both tibias. A cast has been put on him, and he is now in the Matrosskaya Tishina hospital.

Kynev was sent to a pretrial detention center in a drug case: investigators believe he tried to sell them on a large scale. The political scientist himself does not admit guilt, and the defense has already appealed the arrest. He was detained with the participation of the FSB.

Who is Alexander Kynev?

Kynev has monitored Russian elections and reported on violations for many years. In February, he was declared a “foreign agent.”

Before his arrest, he was analyzing State Duma elections and writing about possible falsifications. And Verstka, citing sources close to the presidential administration, wrote that Kynev’s arrest came as a surprise even to the Kremlin’s domestic policy bloc.

One of the outlet’s sources believes the case may be connected to Kynev’s unofficial cooperation with New People.
