Russia banned taking more than 1 million rubles to Armenia, Kazakhstan, and other neighboring countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree banning the export from Russia of more than one million rubles in cash to EAEU countries (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan), as well as to Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The ban does not apply to departures from Russia through certain international airports if bank documents confirming the origin of the cash are provided.

If the ban is violated, individuals face confiscation of the amount exceeding 1 million rubles, while legal entities and individual entrepreneurs (for whom a complete ban is prescribed) face confiscation of all cash being taken out.

Since April 1, 2026, taking cash rubles from Russia to EAEU countries in amounts exceeding the equivalent of 100,000 dollars has been banned. Exceptions were made for those leaving Russia through airports.

After the start of the full-scale war, Russian authorities banned taking currency out of the country in amounts exceeding 10,000 dollars. Rubles could be taken out without restriction, but amounts exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 dollars had to be declared.
