Loyal journalists and state media were banned from “freelancing” in coverage of Russia’s 2027 budget
Russian state media and pro-government online outlets have received recommendations on how to write about Russia’s draft budget for 2027. On September 30, the government submitted it to the State Duma.
The guidelines, which Meduza has seen, recommend telling readers that when drafting the budget, the authorities’ priority remained “people,” to whom “the state will fulfill and expand all social obligations.” The “unconditional fulfillment” of these obligations is described as the “main feature” of the draft budget.
In addition, the presidential administration drew up a list of experts for propagandists who can comment on the adopted draft budget, in which spending on defense and security forces has reached 44%. More details in Andrey Pertsev’s article.
