“If they start any aggressive military actions, they will regret it” — Patrushev, at a meeting with the governor of Kaliningrad Region, again threatened NATO
Putin aide and chairman of Russia’s Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev, at a meeting with Kaliningrad Region governor Alexei Besprozvannykh, said NATO would “regret it” if it decided to isolate the region from the rest of the country.
They will not be able to carry out any threats; they will remain words. If they so much as try to do something in practice, there will be an appropriate, swift response; we have made statements about this more than once. And everything will be put on a completely different plane. If they start any aggressive military actions, they will regret it,
RIA Novosti quotes Patrushev as saying.
🔵Earlier, Russia sent NATO a document in which it warned that it was ready to resort to nuclear weapons if the alliance tried to cut off Kaliningrad.
🔵In response, NATO called on Russia to stop its full-scale invasion of Ukraine and its “irresponsible nuclear rhetoric,” and also said that none of the alliance’s actions “pose a threat to any part of Russia.” NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, responding to Russia’s warning, called for “keeping a cool head and staying calm.”
🔵A Politico source in NATO noted that all these statements from Russia are intended to frighten the public in allied countries so that they stop supporting Ukraine. Another diplomat noted that “Russia always raises the stakes” when it is losing.
