On October 2, in the city of Novomoskovsk in Tula region, the car of a participant in the war against Ukraine was blown up. According to the anonymous channel VChK-OGPU, the driver who was killed was named Roman Syromyatnikov. The death of a person with that name was confirmed by the outlet Novomoskovsk Today.
In the 2010s, Syromyatnikov worked in institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) in Tula region. In 2023, he signed a contract with Russia’s Defense Ministry, and at the end of 2024 returned to Tula region for treatment, Important Stories writes, citing leaked data.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office accused Syromyatnikov of taking part, in 2022, as an employee of Penal Colony No. 1 in Tula region, in the torture and beatings of Ukrainian prisoners of war held in that colony.
At the same time, Syromyatnikov himself said that before leaving for the war (at least since 2021) he had been a life safety teacher at a college in Novomoskovsk.
