A ship sank in the Black Sea after a fire, killing two people. Zelensky blamed Russia for what happened
At around 11:00 on October 5, Romanian border guards received a report that a fire had broken out aboard a commercial vessel located about 30 nautical miles south of Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania’s Interior Ministry said.
Eleven people were rescued from the sunken vessel — they had to be evacuated by helicopter and winch. Two people were also found dead.
Romania’s Maritime Authority said the fire occurred on the vessel Royad Mammadov. Romania did not comment on its cause.
At the same time, Volodymyr Zelensky said that the vessel, which was carrying corn and belonged to Turkey, had been struck by two Russian drones. According to him, citizens of Azerbaijan and India were on board. The Ukrainian president said the ship’s captain was killed.
