Germany could be drawn into an armed conflict with Russia, said Martin Jäger, head of the country’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND)
In his view, the “confrontation with Russia” is taking on “more dangerous forms.”
“Germany risks being drawn into an armed conflict with Russia — the attempted attack in Leipzig is just one example,” he said at hearings of the Bundestag parliamentary committee overseeing the intelligence services (quoted by Reuters).
Jäger believes that Russia is waging a “shadow war” against European countries, while the threat of attacks on targets in Germany remains “real and imminent.” At the same time, he added that there are no signs of Russia preparing a large-scale attack on NATO territory in the near future.
