European Union agrees its largest expansion of the sanctions list against Russia
The European Union has agreed the largest expansion of its sanctions list against Russia
As Euronews reports, ambassadors of EU countries agreed to add more than 1,500 individuals and legal entities to the sanctions list. It will include 743 people and 826 organizations that, in the EU’s view, support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The investigative project Sistema previously reported that military-industrial complex organizations, as well as their executives and employees, would fall under the sanctions. For some organizations, sanctions are being expanded rather than imposed for the first time.
Journalists note that all the organizations on the new sanctions list are included in a closed list of Russian Defense Ministry industrial enterprises that was published in 2025 by the Dossier Center.
The official approval of the new sanctions list is expected on Monday, October 12, at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
