Russia is asking for sanctions to be lifted in exchange for an energy truce, The Kyiv Independent reports.

▪️Dmitriev put forward this idea during talks with Witkoff and Kushner in September, according to sources.

▪️It is not known exactly which sanctions are being proposed for removal, but it may concern frozen Russian assets.

Well, look.

If this is about unfreezing assets, Europe will never go for that, and the main assets are located there.

The U.S. can, of course, unfreeze the $5 billion held there, but that is unlikely to satisfy Russia.

If this is about some other sanctions, we will keep watching; for now there is no information about that.

The most important thing is that the U.S. does not enter into energy cooperation with Russia WITHOUT any preconditions on a peace settlement. That is, that it does not lift sanctions unilaterally and start doing its shady deals. But before the election I do not think Trump will go for that. It would be an outright disgrace, even by his standards.
