More than 30 families in Kenya are demanding that President William Ruto intervene in the situation involving the country’s citizens who were recruited into the Russian army.

Relatives gathered in Nairobi and called on the authorities to obtain information from Russia about the fate of their loved ones, bring the survivors home, and return the bodies of those killed. Some families have not known for months what happened to their relatives.

Many Kenyans went to Russia not to take part in the war. They were promised jobs as security guards, drivers, or in other civilian positions. Once in Russia, people were persuaded or forced to sign military contracts, after which they were sent to the front.

As a reminder, Kenyan authorities earlier managed to get Russia to stop recruiting their citizens. After that, it became known that the Russian command urgently transferred 518 Kenyan citizens, who had previously been in Russian Armed Forces training camps, to the front in order to “zero them out” in assaults. In total, according to Kenyan intelligence estimates, the number of the country’s citizens who have ended up in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces may exceed 1,000.
