The Novye Kotelniki residential complex in the Moscow region was attacked by Ukrainian drones twice. Some residents have already left their apartments; others are convinced air defense will protect them

On September 20, 2026, the Moscow region once again came under a massive Ukrainian drone attack. One of the drones hit a high-rise building in the city of Kotelniki, southeast of Moscow. In June, another drone had already flown into the same building. No one was killed in either strike, but the attacks badly frightened many residents of the neighborhood.

Correspondents from the independent journalists’ cooperative Bereg visited the Novye Kotelniki residential complex to see how it is being restored after the two attacks, and learned what local residents have done. Meduza is publishing this text in full.
