The government proposed raising the maximum age of military service for women in Russia

A bill to this effect has been published in the State Duma database, “Meduza” noted.

It proposes increasing the maximum age for women to remain in military service from 45 to 50, and also the age for remaining in the reserves for female officers and women with other ranks: from 50 to 55 and from 45 to 50, respectively.

This is necessary to create “additional social guarantees for female military personnel,” the explanatory note says. It says that the current maximum age for military service does not always allow women to serve the required length of time to receive a pension and other support measures.

The authors of the bill note in its explanatory memorandum that, amid the war in Ukraine, much of the personnel of medical units consists of female service members, “including those who have reached or are reaching the maximum age for military service.”
