Brian Fitzpatrick (R) announced bipartisan legislation intended to block all purchases of Russian oil.

The bill will be called the "Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act."

The bill will be forced through via a discharge petition and will pass by an overwhelming majority.

A discharge petition is when a bill is brought to a vote bypassing Speaker Johnson. For that, a simple majority is enough (50% + 1 vote). That is, if all Democrats (214) sign the petition, only 4 signatures from Republicans will be needed, one of them from Fitzpatrick.

But then there is still the Senate.

For now, the mechanism by which the bill would be able to block this is unclear. But Congressman Fitzpatrick clearly knows better.
