Authorities backed tougher punishment for “public calls for terrorism”
The government supported a bill increasing punishment for public calls for “terrorism” and “mass unrest,” as well as for “violence against representatives of authority,” TASS writes.
The government’s response says the amendments are “aimed at strengthening the protection of citizens, society, and the state from extremist and terrorist threats.”
The bill was prepared by United Russia members Vasily Piskarev and Eduard Valeev.
For “public calls for terrorism,” lawmakers propose introducing an additional punishment: depriving people of the right to hold “certain positions or engage in certain activities” for up to six years.
For “calls for mass unrest,” lawmakers propose imprisonment for up to three years. For the same actions “using the internet,” deputies propose imprisonment for up to six years.
