A week before the strikes on Yandex data centers, VK Cloud disclaimed responsibility for user data loss during UAV attacks
On September 30, a week before the first attack on Yandex data centers, the cloud platform VK Cloud updated its service offer, disclaiming responsibility for the safety of clients’ data during drone attacks. Verstka noticed the changes in the document.
In the new offer, the company clarified the list of events that it classifies as force majeure circumstances. These include, in particular, the adoption by authorities of acts containing bans or restrictions on the platform’s operation under the contract, civil unrest, and the consequences of the use of weapons.
“The consequences of the use, impact, fall, detonation of weapons, military equipment, aircraft (including unmanned aerial vehicles), other means of destruction, munitions and their parts, including, but not limited to, physical destruction, damage, or loss of control over any facilities or equipment used to provide the Services under the Agreement,” the new offer states.
VK Cloud states that when force majeure circumstances occur, the company “under no circumstances” bears responsibility for the loss, damage, or destruction of the customer’s content. The platform will also not compensate clients for losses that arise in such situations.
💜VK Cloud is part of the VK company ecosystem, whose CEO is Vladimir Kiriyenko, the son of Sergei Kiriyenko, the first deputy head of the presidential administration. The cloud platform became one of the companies with which Yandex, after the UAV attacks, agreed on accelerated placement of data and services for its clients.
💜On the night of October 8, a Yandex data center in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, came under attack for the first time. After that, the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the company’s facilities in Kaluga and Vladimir. The latest attack led to a large-scale disruption in the operation of services both of Yandex itself and of other projects.
