In Tajikistan, a mercenary who returned from the war against Ukraine killed two people—the “heroes of the special military operation” are reaping their bloody harvest beyond Russia as well.

According to Radio Ozodi, the killer lured two men to his home in the city of Isfara under the pretext of exchanging a large amount of foreign currency. He then cold-bloodedly shot one and strangled the other. He buried the victims’ bodies in the yard.

Law enforcement officers managed to apprehend the killer quickly. His name has not been officially disclosed. All that is known is that shortly beforehand, he had returned to Tajikistan after taking part in the war against Ukraine on Russia’s side. This raises a fair question for the local authorities: why was the mercenary not detained on charges of mercenarism immediately upon arriving in the country?

We have repeatedly warned that such cases are, unfortunately, only a matter of time for countries whose citizens serve as mercenaries in the Russian army. Moreover, this is only part of the problems that await the Central Asian countries whose citizens are being recruited en masse to take part in the war against Ukraine. Unless this problem is nipped in the bud, or at least its consequences are addressed, it will rapidly snowball. People with experience of killing and damaged mental health will return home and wreak havoc there.

☝️Let us recall that, according to our data, almost 13,000 citizens of Central Asian countries have already fought in the Russian army. Tajikistan is among the leaders in the number of people recruited. Although mercenarism is a criminal offense in the country, the local authorities are in no hurry to prosecute their citizens who fought on Russia’s side.
