A large oil slick formed in the Black Sea after a tanker fire. A state of heightened readiness has been declared in Krasnodar Krai

On October 6, the Aframax Rio oil tanker caught fire off the coast of Sochi following a Ukrainian drone attack. According to reports from Greenpeace environmentalists, an oil slick covering about 25 square kilometers formed in the Black Sea.

The pollution also spread as far as Anapa, the Clear World environmental project reported based on an analysis of satellite images. Against this backdrop, a state of heightened readiness was declared in Krasnodar Krai due to a “possible petroleum product spill.”
