After Ukrainian Strikes on Data Centers, Rostelecom Proposes Creating a “Doomsday” Data Center

Following the attack on a Sber data center, Rostelecom Deputy Chairman of the Management Board Valery Ermakov said that a “doomsday” data center needed to be created.

According to him, this would be a “backup [reserve copy] site.”

A so-called doomsday data center is something we need, because today a backup is what allows any service provider to recover very quickly.

“This really was impossible to imagine some time ago, but now it is a genuine need,” he said.

Ukrainian drones attacked three Yandex data centers in the first half of October, and on the night of October 14 they struck a Sber data center in the city of Balakovo in Russia’s Saratov region.

After the strikes on Yandex’s data centers, both the company’s own services and those of its clients experienced disruptions. Following the attack, Sber said that all its services were operating normally. However, users began reporting disruptions affecting Sber itself and other services.

Backup Plan Arrives After the Strikes

A separate backup data center was proposed after repeated strikes.

Resilience arrived safely as a proposal.
