Anarchist Alexei Grigoryev Beaten During Prison Transfer, Waited Six Months to See a Surgeon
Anarchist Alexei Grigoryev, who was sentenced to 20 years, was beaten during his transfer to Verkhneuralsk Prison. He subsequently developed an inguinal hernia but did not see a surgeon until six months later.
During that time, Grigoryev says he lost 20 kilograms. He complains of constant abdominal pain and has difficulty eating and using the toilet. Fires of Freedom believes he was beaten for speaking to prisoners of war in Ukrainian.
Who is Alexei Grigoryev?
Grigoryev was detained in May 2023 on the eve of an alleged attempt to set fire to a railway relay cabinet. The FSB claimed that he had collaborated with the Ukrainian project I Want to Live and planned to join the Freedom of Russia Legion.
Grigoryev told the court that he had confessed after being tortured. In February 2025, he was sentenced to 20 years in cases involving preparation of a terrorist attack, high treason, and participation in a terrorist organization.
