“They just file a report to transfer you. Even without your consent, they don’t even need your signature. A report is filed—and you’re transferred.”

No matter where you serve in the Russian army, there is no guarantee that one fine day you will not end up in “disposable” assault infantry. The longer the “special military operation” drags on, the greater that risk becomes as the Russian army’s losses continue to mount.

Vitaly, a former Russian sailor, described how people in the Red Banner Black Sea Fleet are sent to assault units “at the snap of a finger.” You do not even have to do anything wrong. A telegram reporting a critical shortage of infantry personnel can arrive at any moment, and you will be sent from the comfort of the rear to a tree line strewn with corpses.

Vitaly himself was lucky enough to “wriggle out of it.” He spent a full three years serving aboard one of the submarines that fired Kalibr missiles at peaceful Ukrainian cities. When Ukrainian drones turned the once-quiet Novorossiysk into what was effectively the front line, he decided he had had enough of that kind of “action” and left Russia.

🎥 In an interview with The Insider, the deserter also spoke about war crimes committed by Russian sailors and the consequences of strikes by Ukraine’s Defense Forces:

A Transfer Order Needs No Consent

A former sailor described transfers to assault units without consent.

The paperwork mattered more than the person again.
