Ukraine and Russia are finalizing the details of evacuating people from the occupied city of Oleshky and nearby settlements
Ukraine estimates that around six thousand civilians, including up to 200 children, may remain in this part of occupied Kherson region.
Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said that Russia had accepted for consideration all proposals Ukraine put forward regarding the evacuation, Ukrainska Pravda writes. Negotiations are taking place daily, he said.
We are now beginning to coordinate the final details to ensure a ceasefire and the evacuation of everyone who wishes to leave not just Oleshky, but directly to territory controlled by the Ukrainian government. That is, there are, let us say, difficult issues remaining, but in the near future, I hope we will all see concrete results from these negotiations,
said the ombudsman.
The evacuation concerns Oleshky and six other nearby settlements, he added. Up to two thousand people may be in Oleshky itself, with around six thousand civilians in the entire area.
🔵On October 16, the Holy See press office reported that the pope spoke by phone with Putin: he called for a ceasefire in order to deliver humanitarian aid to the city of Oleshky and ensure the “voluntary and safe evacuation” of civilians.
